Team 7th Gear have their Foot on the Gas
St Christopher’s School and Team 7th Gear experienced a thrilling visit to the Bahrain International Circuit on Friday 28 September.
The students were overjoyed with the opportunity to meet with engineers and drivers from the Audi Team and Strakka Racing to see the team’s Honda Performance Development ARX-03a.
They were privileged to gain an inside view of life within the world of motor racing and obtain knowledge and an understanding of the diversity of careers in this field.
The team is looking forward to representing Bahrain at the F1 in Schools 8th World Finals which will be held at Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi, October 29-31. Over 250 students from around the world are expected to attend the event after winning the National Finals in their home countries.
F1 in Schools is a multi-disciplinary challenge in which teams of students aged 9 to 19 deploy CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture) software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature gas-powered balsa wood F1 cars. The global project is designed to help change perceptions of engineering, science and technology by creating a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to develop an informed view about careers in engineering, science, marketing and technology.
Mr Martin Plunkett, Design Technology Teacher said “ The members of Team 7th Gear have worked diligently and methodically to get this far and the fantastic support of the BIC (Bahrain International Circuit) has added a new dimension to their experience. We are all looking forward to the World Finals at the end of the month”
