From Taxi to Take-Off

On Wednesday 27 March, eleven Year 11 students, accompanied by Stuart Dodson and Steve Keeble, were afforded a unique opportunity to spend the morning at Air Traffic Control. The students entered the heart of operations in the Air Navigation Building and were fully briefed by Vinesh Dulabh, Air Traffic Control General Manager, on the high tech navigation systems and procedures employed, having the chance to listen in to conversations between Pilots and Controllers. Moving from the darkened room of the blinking computer screens and monitors, the students were invited to the Control Tower courtesy of Richard Phillips, Senior Air Traffic Control Officer, and were afforded glorious 360 degree views of the Airport, following civilian and military planes from taxi to take-off into the blue skies of Bahrain. This was a highly enjoyable and informative visit and we are indebted to Air Traffic Control for their kind invitation.
