An Ambassadors Invitation
On Monday 2 December, students participating in the NAIMUN Conference in February in Washington DC, accompanied by Mr James Harper and Mrs Nicola Woolf , had the rare privilege of being invited to the US Embassy to discuss a range of issues pertinent to their preparations for the Conference. The Ambassador was very welcoming and very frank and open in discussions relating to US deficit, bi and uni- lateral relations and the role of the UN in world affairs, no-fly zones over disputed territories, gun control and the recent US government ‘shut-down’. The Ambassador was clearly impressed and stated how refreshing it was to have a group of such knowledgeable and articulate students in his company. The meeting ran over by half an hour. To their credit, the students have been invited for a return visit in January after Conference Committees and Countries have been confirmed by Georgetown.
