The early hours of the morning of Friday 21 February saw 41 students and 6 staff gather at Bahrain Airport to start the journey to Torgon in Switzerland. After a stopover in Dubai, we arrived in the resort to find near perfect snow conditions. The week always starts with the challenge of sorting everyone’s clothing and ski equipment out, but what followed were six glorious days of skiing. The beginners made remarkable progress and advanced onto more challenging slopes very quickly while the more experienced skiers honed their skills on slopes in Chatel, Chappelle and Morgins as well as Torgon. Our evening entertainment varied between snow shoe walking, torch-light skiing at night, a roller disco and use of the climbing wall, but the highlight of the evenings saw the entire local community and all the resort staff gather on the slope outside our accommodation for a spectacular show of precision skiing and stunts as well as light and music. We really did time our trip well this year!! Sadly, we had to call it a day the following Friday and we made our way back to Geneva Airport for the trip home, all tired with the odd aching limb but all buoyed by the memories of such a wonderful week on the slopes.
