Year 9 History Trip
51 adventurous students and four teachers left Bahrain in the small hours of Friday 11 April for Belgium on the first stage of the Year 9 History Trip. Arriving in Ypres early that afternoon, we prepared ourselves for one of the most poignant parts of the trip, the wreath laying ceremony during the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. Cecilie Blankholm, Shane McCarthy, Suha Sagheer and Nazar Yousef were selected to present the wreath and were magnificent ambassadors for the School in front of a huge, solemn crowd. A whirlwind tour ensued the next day with visits to World War One cemeteries and some of the original trenches. The group then departed for Paris and were entranced by the beauty of the Palace of Versailles, the thrill of the Eiffel Tower and the elegance of the Champs Elysees. Our Paris trip ended with a great day at Disneyland and we were delighted to meet up with the Year 6, 7 and 8 students who were there on the French trip. The last stage of our journey came all too quickly as we headed off to Normandy. The students had a chance to see for themselves the Normandy beaches, the site of the D Day landings and watch an incredible video of actual news footage of the events. It all ended far too soon!
