Chelsea Pensioner pays the Senior School a Visit
On Monday 10 November, the students and staff at the Senior School were treated with special visitors. Retired Corporal Peter Caiger, formerly of the Royal Corps of Transport and an Army veteran of 22 years’ service, spent a morning at the school touring the campus, visiting Year 7 and Year 13 classes. Corporal Caiger was extremely impressed with a recent display on the 100th anniversary of the start of World War 1, put together by Year 9 students. At lunch time, Corporal Caiger, regaled many more students with tales of his exploits throughout his two decades and more of military service. Corporal Caiger enlisted into the British Army in the summer of 1962 as a 19 year old and worked in the field of air and ground transport although he was also a qualified Army parachutist. He holds, amongst others, the General Service Medal with an impressive 3 clasps representing his active service in Borneo, the Malay Peninsula and in Northern Ireland. Corporal Caiger was accompanied by Mrs Sara Thompson, a long-time resident of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and the daughter of World War 2 and Korean war veteran, the late Brigadier Dennis Rendell MC CBE who was a pioneering member of the elite Parachute Regiment and Royal Military Police and also a former prisoner of war in Italy during WW2.
