Performers Excel
The BSME Young Musicians of the Gulf 2015 competition welcomed 111 Musicians from around the Gulf to take part in a three day celebration of virtuoso performances. The competition featured soloists and ensemble performers.
St Christopher’s had one of their most successful years in the competition with William Caley, Koya Chen, Gabby Liandu, Lulu Al Sugair, Michel Toutoungy and Sriram Venkatesh performing in the Semi-Final. Sriram Venkatesh playing the Tabla made it through to the Final on Thursday 29 January.
The Final was held at the Sofitel Hotel, the event attracting a large audience who were witness to a unique evening of excellent music performed by the six Finalists. To add to St Christopher’s success, three students were awarded Trophies: William Caley won the Woodwind Prize, Michel Toutoungy won the Owerkowicz Bequest (Most promising Bahrain based Musician) and Sriram Venkatesh was awarded the impressive Knights Bequest (Most promising Musician 15 years and younger). The three visiting adjudicators were extremely impressed by the incredibly high standard of performance throughout the competition and Richard Dickins, the Chief Adjudicator, reported that the standard was even higher than last year! A fantastic event thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
