Get those Wheels Going
At 9.00am Saturday 21 February, we embraced the intensely strong wind and cooler temperature to endure a day at the BIC. It began with us manning the registration desk, helping collect the charity money and placing wrist bands on what seemed to be Olympian cyclists who had joined us that day! After a short while, we proceeded to sign the contestants up for the race, a combination of running, wheeling and /or cycling. We had everyone there from young toddlers to grandparents! Kankamol and I chose to do this event as we knew it was going to be something we would enjoy, on-top of this we also met some incredibly dedicated charity workers, alongside the sensationally athletic cyclists. We loved the cycle ride around the BIC track with some physically impaired children; they were challenging themselves to make it round. They were amazing! In my personal opinion, the best part of the day was seeing so many people excited to be involved and at the same time helping to raise funds. Almost BD3000 was collected and donated to Charities such as: ECC (nominated in loving memory of Noriko Khan) and the Bahrain Association for Intellectual Disability and Autism. This is an incredible triumph to raise such a large sum of money, considering the harsh weather. We thoroughly enjoyed the event from start to finish. Next year it is expected to be even bigger and better! ~ Kirsten Lee and Kanki Kankamol – Sixth Form
