Finishing the Season on a High
The highlight of the St Christopher’s Girls Junior Football season was at the BSME games in Oman where we came second overall. In our early games, we did not play to our full potential but, following a couple of positional changes, we regained our mojo and began to play as the quality team we are. We were unbeaten as the group stages drew to a close and we progressed to the semi-final which finished 1-1 after extra time! A thrilling penalty shoot-out followed and Charlotte Pilgrim made a great save to take us through to the Final. Unfortunately, our legs began to tire and in a hard fought game with Dhahran we lost 2-0. Back at home in Bahrain, St Chris finished a brilliant 2nd in the BPSSL (Juniors), this was the culmination of two hard fought South Region Football Festivals and the whole island final in March. In the final tournament, St Chris beat Northern champions, Bahrain School, 5-0. With Chloe Maxwell scoring an amazing goal from the halfway line. In the final we played IKNS, the only team to have beaten us in Bahrain all season, and despite a Final filled with end to end action it was IKNS who came out on top, the final score being 3 -2 as IKNS stole the winner in the dying seconds of the match. We also played the Bahrain U14 National Team in a friendly game and finally ended the season in March with another friendly against Tekkers Football Academy at BRFC. In a thrilling goal fest, St Chris came out 7-3 winners with Charlotte Pilgrim scoring a hat trick and Chloe Maxwell, Gracie Nahle, Alex Myatt and Maya Hussain all getting on the score sheet. It was great for all the girls to finish the season on a high!
