Sun, Sand and Water – What a day!
Here is a well-known but often forgotten recipe. It is a recipe for certain excitement, lots of fun and a large dollop of laughter. Are you ready? Okay: just take a group of 6 and 7-year olds and add sand and water. That’s it!
The recent Year 2 visit to Bahrain Yacht Club was a not-to-be-missed event where all children and helping parents had a wonderful time. Whilst at the BYC, the children combed the shoreline for marine life, finding crabs and fish as well as a manta ray, a seal, a squid and a whale shark (just plastic toys, apparently planted by a teacher). Children used their understanding of tally charts to document the speed boats, sailing boats, jet-skis and tractors in the marina and, once the field-study work was over, everyone got down to the serious business of building an array of spectacular sand castles. There were castles with moats, castles with turrets, castles with bridges and castles with dungeons.
Everyone is agreed that this was a wonderful experience, an opportunity to consolidate our current study of islands and shorelines and a much deserved morning of fun. As one of the children put it, “I think this is the best trip I have ever been on. I’m going again!”
