Leading up to YMOG

The Senior School Music Department hosted A Musical Interlude on Monday 16 January, which proved to be an excellent opportunity for all of our students who have entered the Young Musicians of the Gulf Competition to perform in front of an audience prior to the preliminary rounds of the Competition. The programme consisted of a variety of instrumental Solo performances as well as Ensembles. The Young Musicians of the Gulf Competition is a very prestigious music event that requires all participants to be of at least Grade 7 standard on their chosen instrument and the performances we watched on Monday evening really were of a high calibre.

The audience were fortunate enough to enjoy performances by students of different ages, playing a variety of instruments. Our youngest musician of the evening was Mohamed Alnajjar and our eldest Lulu Alsugair, who as always, wowed the audience with her powerful Solo Flute performance as well as her Ensemble contributions. Lulu is a key member of the Music Department as she leads Jawhara, the Flute Trio and the Flute Quartet. It really is such a pleasure to watch her perform on stage. It is always nice to hear performers from previous years as well as welcome new talent to the competition. Liela Alsugair, Sheherazade Al Shahry, Farah van der Kooi, Dana Al Tajer and Rebecca Kareh all made their Young Musicians of the Gulf Solo performance debut on Monday evening and we are so proud of their achievements. The Competition begins on Monday 23 January with the initial Solo rounds on Monday and Tuesday.

The Semi-Final of this Competition is always a superb event and it will be held in the School Hall at the Saar campus. It is scheduled to start at 5pm and is free for all to attend. The Grand Final will be on Thursday 26 January at the Sofitel Hotel Ballroom. Every year, the Young Musicians of the Gulf Finalists raise their standards and astound the audience with their incredible performances. Tickets are free of charge and can be collected from Reception at both the Saar campus and Isa Town campus. The Grand Final is scheduled to begin at 7pm and, fingers crossed, we will witness some of our St Chris musicians on the night!
