All for a Good Cause

As many parents may be aware, in March 2014, we started a Community Service project to decorate and liven up the walls of the NBB Home for Disabled children in Isa Town. Simultaneously, Year 11 student, Olivia Gardiner was looking to earn some community service hours for her Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This endeavour resulted in a joint family project, a Charity Football Tournament at the Bahrain Rugby Club, organised by the Vrijhof and the Gardiner families.

They raised and donated a fantastic BD1300 to the Physiotherapy Department of the home. As a thank you to the staff, parents and students involved in this project, on the 8 January 2017, NBB hosted a ceremony of appreciation and presented certificates to those involved. Mr Nick Wilson, Head of Senior School, Ms Kirsty McKay, Project Leader, Mrs Sylvia Vrijhof, Cesar Vrijhof (Year 6) and Kelsey Kincaid (Sixth Form) went along to receive the certificates and to watch a presentation from Ms Abra, the leading Physiotherapist. She detailed the improvements made to the center and the effect the new equipment had had on the lives of the children who visit the Physiotherapy Department.

Although this project has been completed, ties between the two institutions remain strong and further fundraising and donations will continue. The NBB Home for Disabled Children is in great need of specific sport wheelchairs, which will allow the children to be more involved in PE lessons.
