Girls’ Indoor Football Tournament
Well done to both of our St Chris Girls’ Indoor Football teams! They were both absolutely fantastic in this year’s tournament held at Bayan School. St Chris 1 dominated their pool matches 3-0, 3-0, 1-0, 3-0, 4-0, while St Chris 2 outperformed their rivals in the other pool, with wins, a draw and only one loss.
Unfortunately, this pitched us against each other in the semi-finals. With a 3-1 win to St Chris 1, St Chris 2 headed into the 3rd and 4th playoffs, comfortably winning against Bayan and taking home bronze medals! A fantastic result!
St Chris 1 played a very tough match against BSB. After a fabulous goal from Haya and an unfortunate call from the ref, BSB drew. After extra time it was still 1-1. This meant penalties – the worst way to end a tense final. BSB managed to get one past us, causing St Chris 1 to take home silver.
A very well done to all the girls. They played some of the best football we have seen and we are very proud of all of them!
PSL Indoor 5-a-side Football
St Christopher’s took two teams of six players each, United and Rovers, to the final Primary Sports League competition of the year, the U11s Boys Indoor 5-a-side Football Tournament on Monday 8 May. With so much football having been played over the season so far, selection for this tournament is traditionally weighted towards the Year 5s to give them valuable tournament experience with next year’s events in mind.
United started incredibly well, scoring within 5 seconds of their first match with a flowing passing move. They went on to put together a useful run of results that took them to the brink of qualification for the semi-finals. Unfortunately, a loss in the make-or-break final group game meant that United had to settle for third place in their pool.
Rovers took a couple of games to get in their rhythm against some difficult opponents. Despite dominating much of the possession and territory, they just couldn’t quite add the finishing touch. With continued perseverance, the goals came for them with a three-game winning streak to finish off their pool. Sadly, it wasn’t quite enough as they too finished third in the pool.
