St Christopher’s School was delighted to welcome Jack Clark, School Partnerships Director at United World Schools (UWS), to visit on Tuesday 25 (isa Town) and Wednesday 26 April (Saar). Jack had previously met St Christopher’s staff during the trip to Nepal to visit the communities in Gurase and Helu Besi during February half term 2017. Jack came into the Senior School on the Tuesday and began the day by leading three assemblies to students in Years 7-12. Jack spoke to the students about the work and goals of United World Schools, and explained how the hard work of the St Christopher’s community has impacted the people and villages of Gurase. He even provided direct examples of specific children who have now been able to benefit from an education due to the support of St Christopher’s. There was a significant buzz of excitement and interest amongst the students upon their exit from each assembly. At first break, Jack met with the Community Service Captain Team to thank them for their hard work and to provide an opportunity for the students to find out more about United World Schools and global charity work. The Service Captains had prepared a list of thoughtful questions that Jack enjoyed answering. Later in the day, Jack also met with Sixth Form students who are interested in taking a Gap Year. The students spoke to Jack about the opportunity available to participate in a Gap Year in Cambodia with the United World Schools. The students found out about the timeline of the experience as well as the minimal costs involved. Jack emphasised that many organisations charge a significant amount for the Gap Year experience, whereas UWS do not charge at all.
