St Chris Hit the Big Apple!

Forty-four St Christopher’s students made their way to Yale University in Connecticut for the culmination of the 2017 World Scholar’s Cup programme. The students had qualified for this final event following their good performances at the Hanoi Global Round in June. Having arrived in New York, we visited Times Square and the Empire State Building before making the journey north to New Haven, the home of Yale University. The competition was stronger than ever this year, with around 1000 students competing in each of the two divisions. As before, the students were competing in teams of 3, within the 2017 theme of an ‘Unlikely World’. The 4 elements of the competition were a team debate, collaborative writing, a tough challenge test and the more fun ‘Scholar’s Bowl.’ All of the St Christopher’s students competed well, each winning medals. Top performers were Parthiv Saha (6th overall) and Kamilah El Kanfoudi (19th overall) in the Junior Division and Sajida Bella (89th overall) in the Seniors. We also enjoyed a day trip to Boston, visiting Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
