An Evening of Culture

The Infant and Junior Schools’ Art Exhibition marked a significant collection of children’s artwork from across the year groups. The theme of this year’s collection was ‘Portrait Perceptions’. It included projects from Nursery classes using a variety of interesting ‘loose parts’ to create individual self-portraits. Sculpture inspired Reception and Year 2 into producing wonderful self-portraits out of clay and wooden palette’s. The Year 1 children create bold and beautiful painted, puzzle portraits.

Our Year 3 artists modified their self-portraits with crazy hair designs to create some very expressive imagery. Year 4 had an array of approaches to fill their silhouettes, from tissue paper to stained newsprint, to individual themes from magazine images. Household paintbrushes were transformed by pupils in Year 5, resulting in fabulous faces. Spirit animals were the initial inspiration for our Year 6 personal totem poles to illustrate another creative approach to portraiture.

Thanks must also go to the pupils and their teachers for providing such a variety of musical performances while art lovers were browsing the exhibition. In the main foyer, pianists and vocalists entertained the crowd while upstairs in the Library, guitarists provided a quieter atmosphere. Particular thanks to Miss Williamson’s Vocal Pupils: Anvita Vishwakoti 5A, Ameera Chowdhury 5E, Nooralayn Akhtar 5A, Katie McGinley, Maya Telang 6D. Thanks also to Mrs Kazi’s Piano Pupils: Layla Mohammed 5E, Adam Kadia 6B, Noorhan Elkhatib 5E, Nuriye Aamir 5B, Lucie Winwood 6E , Jude Halawani 6A + Maya Telang 6D – duet, and Mr Marcelo’s Guitarists: Fiana Modi, Nicole Carminati, Liam Hardiman, Alexander Atabani.

Congratulations to all of our budding artists and musicians here at St. Christopher’s and a huge thank you to the many hands that made this year’s Art Exhibition/Musical Interlude such a success.
