Design, Hammer, Cut, Create

The Infant and Junior School children are definitely having a wild time in Design and Technology. Year 4 have worked hard to cut and shape their animal themed nightlights and are just at the final stages of construction before they make their electrical circuits. Reception children have taken inspiration from nature using paper mache to build their polar animals and are now finishing off their animal junk models. They have also learnt how disposable materials can be reused and recycled.

At the beginning of the summer term, three individuals were awarded the ‘Golden Hammer’ for their effort and attainment in Design and Technology. The  recipients were Ben Callon, Year 4, Karina Shearer, Yeare 5 and Mohammed Ahmed, Year 6.

Year 5 have recently been feeling the heat in the kitchen as they completed their own biscuits designs and Year 6 are producing their own sports bags, using image transfer sheets to personalise their work.

Infants have been developing independence and individuality when making, with the emphasis on the process of design and making. We have seen some wonderful castles constructed in Year 1 and some great team work in Year 2; designing and building their crane structures.
