A Shiny Trophy and Man United Coaching

St Christopher’s School Girls Football Team attended the Viva sponsored Manchester United Soccer School Programme Tournament on  18 May. A convincing performance in the first match with an opening goal from Nicole Moir helped settle nerves beating BSB 1-0, whilst a 4-0 win against Sacred Heart to finish top of the table in the group stage saw the goal of the tournament from Ella Huckvale. The Semi-Final against Al Hekma School was uncontested, with another 4-0 win, very little for the St Chris defence to deal with more goals from Nicole, Ella and Phoebe Licence. The final was a closer encounter, with an early lead secured by BSB. Almost immediately, the girls responded, with defenders Sofia Cortes, Anastasia Makhlouf and Elena Alsharif marking the opposition to the point where they had little chance to break through. Rayeh Al Khalifa found herself working hard in the centre of the pitch, holding together the defence and pushing forwards on the counterattack. Phoebe put in another solid performance running at players and scored twice, which along with a goal from Nicole gave us the win with a 3-1 victory, a game where the girls played very well as a team with every player contributing. Lauren Moir made no mistakes in goal and captained the team with a cool head throughout the afternoon. The final outcome was a shiny trophy, plus Nicole and Phoebe with the accolade of being two of the four female players selected for an all-expenses paid trip to the UK to train with Manchester United coaches this summer – not a bad way to spend an afternoon!
