From the Dramatic to the Abstract

The Kings Palace

On 4, 5 and 6 December, the Drama department was transformed into an Arabian Nights world.

Prior to the performance, audiences were able to enjoy Arabic tea, coffee and dates whilst perusing photographs and work provided by the Arabic department.

Once inside the theatre, guests were positioned on the traverse seating, on either side of the carpeted stage (donated by Baqer Furniture) , which brought them closer to the stories that came to life before their eyes. Audience members said that they had been absorbed and mesmerised during the performance.

The Senior School new Head of Drama, Jo Lee  said “ Cast and crew worked wonderfully together to stage the Arabian Nights stories. The ensemble nature of the piece meant that it was essential that everyone play their part to the full”.

Thank you to Aqua Cool for their sponsorship of Arabian Night and also to Baqer Furniture, Picture Arabia and KSDI for their support of this production.

Key Stage 3 Dance Club

This term Dance Club was led by Sarah Taylor (11B), and the sessions each week were spent practicing the dance that she choreographed for the opening part of Arabian Nights. To do this, the students had to learn the basic moves of traditional Arabic dancing that were then used in their performance. The end result was stunning and the girls all looked wonderful in their costumes and make-up, and of course they performed it beautifully each night!
