Team Epiphany meets Royalty

On Saturday 18 January, nine students from St Christopher’s Senior School attended the Great British Advanced Engineering and Innovation Conference, held at the Bahrain International Circuit.Team Epiphany, who represented Bahrain at the Formula 1 in Schools World Finals in Austin, Texas, demonstrated their Formula 1 in Schools racing cars on a 20 metre track, situated in the centre of the Exhibition area. During the Exhibition, Team Manager Suad El-Jawhari, Design Engineer Sheran Mendis and our Technician Jibi Varghese, demonstrated the operation of the CO 2 powered cars to HRH Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HRH Sheikh Salman bin Isa al Khalifa, HRH Prince Andrew and HE Iain Lindsay, British Ambassador to Bahrain. St Christopher’s students discussed how they design, analyse, test, make and race their model cars, as part of the competition. In particular, Suad El-Jawhari spent over 10 minutes explaining to HRH Skeikh Abdulla and HRH Prince Andrew their experience of Formula 1 in Schools. Our students attended seminars on engineering from Rolls Royce, McLaren Automotive, one of our partners, BAE Systems United Kingdom, and it was noted that our students asked one of the more sensible questions during the Rolls Royce seminar, in regard to 3D printing and use of Rapid Prototype Engineering. Martin Whitaker rewarded Team Manager, Suad El-Jawhari, with a track experience in a McLaren racing car. This was a great day for our students and School. Just to add the team will feature in Bahrain This Month magazine, and was filmed by a Saudi Arabian TV station for a later broadcast. Martin Plunkett, Head of Design and Technology.
