St Chris Under-13 Girls Team v Bahrain Under-14 National Team

On 19 March 2014, the St Chris Junior Girls Team had the opportunity to play against the Under-14 National Team in the run-up to their Asian Cup matches in Jordan. Although the Girls’ Football season had finished, we could not miss a match of this stature. On arrival, the girls were a little in awe of the BFA set up; we were greeted by Coach Khalid, the professional referee with his two assistants and a squad of 25 girls with an array of Team Coaches. The state of the art training facilities were also impressive, 3 full size floodlit grass pitches in immaculate condition. The psychological impact of playing against such a professional outfit was apparent in the first twenty minutes; before we knew it, St Chris had gone down 3-0. Midfield began to pass and interact well twenty-five minutes in and the team pulled back a goal to go in 3-1 down at half-time. Bahrain again started strongly in the second half, scoring another two well-crafted goals, but St Chris carried on fighting and pulled back to 5-2 with a well-placed shot from Bruna Elias, her second goal of the match. At 6-2 down after sixty minutes, St Chris managed to pull back another with a superb individual move from Danielle Wilkinson, but Bahrain had the last say in spite of St Chris’ brave fight back, the game finishing 7-3. Well done to the Under-13 Girls and a big thank you to Coach Khalid and the BFA for the invitation to play against the Bahrain Under-14 National Team.
