World Scholar’s Cup

The first ever World Scholar’s Cup Regional Competition in Bahrain took place on Saturday 3 May at St Christopher’s School. Students from seven schools across Bahrain competed in teams of three in two age groups. The winning teams included Raza Akbari, Llewellyn Forward and Haytham McDowall-Rose who won the Junior Division and Harsh Ainapure, Anish Vishwakoti and Shawn Amirthan who were second in the Senior Division. The students took part in debating, collaborative writing and answering quiz style questions, all on a theme called ‘The World Within.’ Raza commented, ‘I really enjoyed the competition, especially the ‘Scholar’s Bowl’ and debating challenge as we got to meet new people and work together to solve problems. I put a lot of effort into my preparation and it was great to see it pay off! I hope that I can now go on to the next round of the competition, representing Bahrain in Singapore in June.’ The World Scholar’s Cup is a fun, challenging and academic competition that runs regional competitions in over 30 countries. The best performing students are invited to compete at the Global competiton in June and potentially then at the ‘Tournament of Champions’ at Yale University in the United States in November. The students were particularly excited to receive a fluffy alpaca, which is the mascot of the World Scholar’s Cup!
