“What Wisdom can you find that is Greater than Kindness?”

~ Jean Jacques Rousseau

RAK cardWorld Kindness Day is fast approaching and I am happy to announce that this year St Christopher’s will be taking part in the Random Acts of Kindness initiative. We are big believers in kindness and the power and effect it has on everyone involved. Performing an act of kindness does not require you to be of a particular age, or for you to dedicate a large portion of your time. It can be as simple as holding the door open for someone, or spending your playtime with someone new.

What we love about the Random Acts of Kindness initiative is that it makes service to others easy and accessible to everyone, particularly children. Our goal is to make everyone aware of these acts of kindness, celebrate them and create a ‘Culture of Kindness’ within the St Chris community.

kindness club alosraThe Kindness Squad have already begun their Kindness offensive, leaving kind notes and jokes to brighten the days of teachers and friends. They spent an afternoon outside Al-Osra helping shoppers with their bags and have left cheerful bookmarks in random books around the school. Once they have performed an act of kindness, the children have been handing out special ‘Rak’ed ’ cards which challenge the recipient to continue this chain of kindness by performing their very own Random Act of Kindness. We hope that as this grows, our Random Acts of Kindness will spill out into the local, and possibly international, community.

So it’s over to you, the students and parents of St Chris to kick start the RAK campaign, and here are some ideas to help get you started:

  1. Compliment the first three people you talk to.
  2. Write a hand-written note to a teacher.
  3. Say ‘good morning’ to someone in school.
  4. Pick up rubbish. Spend 10 minutes helping the environment.
  5. Place uplifting notes in library books, on bathroom mirrors, in someone’s cubby or on their computer screen.
  6. Let someone out in front of you in traffic.
  7. Donate some food to the ‘Feed the Need’ fridges.
  8. Call an old relative or friend you haven’t spoken to in a while.
  9. Buy someone a coffee or bake them a cake.
  10. Plant a flower or a tree.
