UNICEF Twist on Halloween

unicefThe Trick or Treat for UNICEF was started in 1950 in the United States, when Philadelphia schoolchildren first went door-to-door at Halloween collecting money in decorated milk cartons to help their global peers by providing them with educational opportunities. Trick or Treat for UNICEF was started in St Christopher’s in the early 2000s and this year I had the privilege of spearheading this event. I worked with students from Years 7, 8 and 9, all of whom were very eager to help out and give back to the wider community.  At the end of October, the students collected money during their regular Halloween celebrations. Apart from this, we also held a Bake Sale in school. Together, we were able to raise BD 519, which I think made it a grand success. I would like to thank all the students and my friends who contributed into making this endeavour so worthwhile. I would also like to thank my mum and sister, Ms McKay, Mr Wilson and UNICEF for all the support that they had kindly extended towards me. I hope that, through this initiative, all the students involved were as enriched as I was both those who are in Bahrain and helped me with activity as well as those who will be receiving the aid. ~ Joel Jacob Thomas
