Visit to King Hamad University Hospital and RCSI

DSC_0467

Fifteen students, accompanied by Mr Walker, had the pleasure of visiting the KHUH and RCSI on Wednesday 11 March. The students were shown around the hospital by Nurse Joseph, who started the tour in the Emergency Department. Emma Blackmore had her finger put into a cast, showcasing the hospital’s excellent facilities and care for patients with broken bones.

The tour continued with more interactive activities for the students; one of the highlights was getting to ‘drive’ the ambulance and having Dorna Fatin strapped into the emergency bed inside! We also visited the fully automated laboratory and the hypobaric department, where students were allowed into the large and single person oxygen chambers. The visit to the hospital was really enlightening and great fun. We took the short journey over to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (Bahrain) impressive facilities and had a talk by Dr Seamus about the programmes on offer. Dr Seamus gave the students some invaluable advice about their IB and A level subject choices. We were shown some of the facilities at RCSI by Ms O’Shea, including the laboratory where medical students practise on manikins and look at preserved body parts! We are very grateful to both the King Hamad University Hospital and RCSI.
