Feisty Footballers

Football brightened up the day despite looming storm clouds and a forecast of torrential rain as St Christopher’s hosted the annual Primary Sports League U11 Boys Football Tournament on Wednesday 25 November. With a large array of football talent to choose from, St Chris were able to field three teams who all performed admirably.

U11 Tournament

The C team, superbly marshalled by the outstanding Andrew Monkhouse, narrowly missed out on joining the A and B teams in qualifying for the semi-finals. Hashim Khalaifat and Jacob Phillpots were firing on all cylinders for the Bs as they entered a penalty shootout for third place. Jed Thomas stepped up heroically to save a penalty. With his teammates matching the opposition kick for kick, sudden death was eventually halted in favour of a joint-third place award.

The cohesion of the A’s teamwork was so good it made it difficult to highlight a particular player’s performance as they made the final without having conceded a goal in their pool stages. They ran out worthy 3-1 winners with every player making significant contributions to the victory, allowing Captain Ali Al-Nusuf and Vice-Captain James Pilgrim to lift the retained trophy. Each player should be proud of their contributions to their teams and the standards they set at this tournament. Well played!
