Wow, did we know our bodies could even do that!

St Christopher’s students were given an amazing demonstration of Calisthenics. Many may be wondering what calisthenics is………..

Calisthenics are exercises consisting of a variety of gross motor movements; often rhythmical and generally without equipment or apparatus. They are, in essence, body-weight training. They are intended to increase body strength, body fitness, and flexibility, through movements such as pulling or pushing oneself up, bending, jumping, or swinging, using only one’s body weight for resistance; usually conducted in concert with stretches. When performed vigorously and with variety, calisthenics can provide the benefits of muscular and aerobic conditioning, in addition to improving psychomotor skills such as balance, agility and coordination.

The team called Barsparta represented the United Kingdom in the World Championships this year at the Ritz Carlton. They visited both the Saar and Isa Town sites and gave a 20 minute routine, displaying superb strength and flexibility.

Two members of the team were former St Christopher’s students, brothers Shehab and Omran Saeed. Many students expressed an interest in learning how they can get involved in learning about Calisthenics. The team announced that they will be working with the Sparta Academy in September offering classes!
