Historical 200 Year Celebrations Continued
The Last Night of the Proms will be a St Christopher’s School event that will remain forever in its history! With over two hundred performers on stage in the Bahrain Cultural Hall for the two concerts, the music was outstanding in every aspect.
The programme was carefully selected taking excerpts from the traditional British Proms, mixed with some Middle Eastern influences to enhance the Bahrain/UK bicentennial anniversary celebrations. It was a pleasure to welcome members of the Bahrain Police Band to play alongside musicians in the school orchestras.
The students on stage, the staff choir and the music instrumental and curriculum team, showed enthusiasm in their performances and delighted the audience with a standard of excellence that surpassed even our wildest dreams. The audience clapped and cheered, sang along when encouraged, waved flags and wiped away emotional tears.
The words of one of the songs that was sung at the concerts “Wider still, and wider, shall thy bounds be set” can be linked to Bahrain-UK and to the incredible musical talent that is here in St Christopher’s School.
We would also like to extend a special mention of thanks to the following people: The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities for providing the Cultural Hall as a venue; The Cultural Hall Team for sharing their technical knowledge in preparation for this event; The Bahrain-UK 200 Anniversary Committee for working alongside us to bring this celebration to life; Major General Dr Mubarak Najem for sharing his time and personal expertise; The Bahrain Police Band for supporting our young musicians during the performance; and finally, to Party Mania for providing all the fantastic balloon decorations.
