Art on Display

It was lovely to see so many staff, parents and students at the twenty-fifth St Christopher’s Senior School Art Exhibition which was formally opened by Head of Senior School, Mr Nick Wilson, and His Excellency, Mr Simon Martin CMG, British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, on Sunday 28 May 2017. This year’s Exhibition featured the Artwork of our GCSE, Advanced Subsidiary Level and Advanced Level students, and, as always, our students put on a display of exciting and original work that was really representative of our student body. Thirty-eight students exhibited this year, and there were over five hundred pieces of large scale Artwork on display and over one hundred sketchbooks, each mapping the progress of a project from the initial intention to the finalised expression; every step of the journey carefully planned out and communicated. As ever, the Artwork created reflects the multicultural nature of the student body and the ever progressing environment of Bahrain. Students have been encouraged to celebrate their cultural upbringing and backgrounds by exploring a variety of historical and contemporary modes of artistic working practices. The product of their enquiries was apparent in the diverse body of work on display this year; students produced work using a range of media including Painting and Drawing, Sculpture, Installation, Animation, Photography, Happenings and Textiles. All forms of Art are equally valued and it has been exciting to see students continuing to use traditional and unusual art resources to develop their pieces. The hard work from the students and Art staff as a collaborative effort culminated in a hugely impressive and creative year’s work. All involved in the Art exhibition should be very proud of their achievements, the Art Exhibition really was a tremendous success.
