Boys BSME Football

St Christopher’s hosted the annual BSME U11s Football Tournament for seven visiting schools on Saturday 3 February. Of the fourteen participating teams, the three St Chris teams – United, Rovers and Athletic – were looking to emulate the girls’ tournament win from the previous day. Rovers had probably the toughest of the opening fixtures and caused some problematic moments for their United squad-mates before eventually losing 2-0, while Athletic got themselves off to a winning start in quite a difficult group.

After completing six fixtures each, Rovers finished in an admirable fourth place, and Athletic also achieved a respectable fourth place finish in their group. United were the team to progress, having maintained a 100% winning record to top their league and earn a semi-final against NAS Dubai. It turned out to be a tense affair that went to extra-time with United edging out a lead and holding on to make the final, where they met DESS Dubai. United played valiantly but couldn’t come back against two early goals and eventually succumbed to a 4-0 loss. Well played to all the players involved who, as always, are a credit to the school with their efforts. Huge thanks must go to the Junior PE Department, Mr Armstrong, Mr Gosling, Mr Ross, Mr Neely, Mr Roycroft and Nick the Ref without whom the tournament would not have run so smoothly. Girls BSME Football 2018

The girls were on fire at this year’s BSME Football tournament! Eight teams from around the Gulf participated. St Christopher’s entered three teams, aptly named St Chris United, St Chris Rovers and St Chris Athletic. All teams gave it everything with some wins, draws and losses along the way. It was St Chris United who finished the tournament having never lost a game. We faced DESS Dubai in the final. They may have beaten us last year, but our girls were no match for them this year! Sarah scored the first goal, closely followed by a stunning header from Hanna into the top corner from one of Isabel’s fabulous corners. Game over! 2-0 to St Chris United, to take home the cup! Well done to all the girls. You made us very proud!
