Ecoventure Camp

59 Year 8 students spent an action-packed long weekend at the Ecoventure Camp in Ras Al-Khaimah from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 February. Whilst in camp students engaged in a range of activities from fire building, rafting, kayaking, abseiling and rock climbing.  During the evening even more fun was to be had either around the camp fire singing songs, competing in teams in the ‘Wacky Races’ tournament or taking part in the egg challenge – building a protective device to prevent an egg from smashing as it is dropped from the top of the camp building! In between the fun and games students played sports, swam and ate wholesome buffet lunches in the camp’s canteen – all mobile phone and internet free! The vast majority of students said they enjoyed the time away from devices and it was great to see students mixing with one another and even roping in the six accompanying staff to play games and sports throughout the day. The highlight of the trip for most, was the Leap of Faith. This activity involved climbing 25 feet up a steel pole before leaping into the air to hit a large inflatable ball dangling tantalisingly out of reach! For many this was a real challenge, but with the support of the outstanding Ecoventure instructors and the support and encouragement of the Year 8 audience, most were able to overcome a fear of heights to complete the daunting challenge. All students and staff agreed this was a memorable weekend of fun, high-energy activities that served to not only bond the group but expose the students to new and interesting activities.
