Intermediate Girls

The Intermediate Girls Basketball Teams had a very successful season in terms of participation levels and success at the Festivals and Tournaments, which took place at The Bahrain School and at St Christopher’s. Up to thirty-two girls attended the practices and formed a very promising squad of players. A few friendly games amongst themselves got them into a more competitive frame of mind and we took two squads to the Festivals. The ‘A’ Squad played consistently well throughout the season and finished Runners-Up in both the League and End of Season Tournaments. A very strong Bahrain School Team were winners in both categories. The ‘B’ Squad did not enjoy so much success in terms of winning games but, nevertheless, played with great spirit and enthusiasm. They never gave up and certainly came away from the season with a great deal more knowledge of and aptitude for the game. Very well done all of you – you showed great sportsmanship throughout.

Intermediate Boys

The season began with three keenly contested trial sessions. Tough decisions were made and two competitive squads were selected. Each player reliably attended all training sessions and were excited to head to Riffa Views for our first tournament of the season. Bahrain School shocked us in our first match, but we quickly regrouped and beat The British School and both B teams. The second tournament, also at Riffa Views, was more successful as we went through the whole evening undefeated. The boys continued to train enthusiastically, improving in both defence and attack. Confidence was high as the quality of our play consistently improved. The next competitive match was to be held at Bahrain School. Playing in the rival’s lair was very challenging. Bahrain are always well supported and the matches were incredibly close. In the end, the season concluded with two very narrow defeats, one in overtime. The boys were disappointed but the progress and attitude of everyone remained very positive.

Player of the Season was Ali Alqamish, with Olgu Pilav the Most Improved.

Junior Girls

St Christopher’s School Junior Girls Basketball squad had an undefeated season this year in the Schools Sports League Festivals. In the final tournament, St Christopher’s grew stronger throughout the stages of the competition. In the final game, we faced our old rivals, the BSB, beating them 12-11 The atmosphere was tense at the beginning of the game as each team’s defensive strategy was outstanding. We were without a basket for the first few minutes with both teams unable to capitalise. Eventually, we managed to sneak a few baskets which lifted the team’s confidence. After the basket, our attacking formation was evident as the girls started to create space and believed in their own ability to win the game. Overall, it was a great competitive environment within the team, the sportsmanship was high and challenges were fair. Well done to all on a great season.

Junior Boys

The Junior Boys Basketball Season started on the 11 February. This year, St Christopher’s Under 13 entered two teams in the Bahrain Schools Sports League Tournaments and the A team finished Runners-Up overall. I was very pleased with the commitment and effort put in by the players and as a result of their hard work many students made some excellent progress.
