Numbers, Numbers

The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. The UKMT Individual Maths Challenges are lively, intriguing multiple choice question papers, which are designed to stimulate interest in maths in large numbers of pupils. The three levels, Junior (Year 7 and Year 8), Intermediate (Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11) and Senior (Year 12 and year 13) cover the secondary school range 11-18 and together they attract over 600,000 entries from over 4,000 schools and colleges. The Senior, Intermediate and Junior Challenges saw our students winning 22 Gold Awards, 40 Silver Awards and 48 Bronze Awards. Around 500 of the highest scorers in each school year are invited to take part in the Mathematical Olympiad papers. Sausthava Malakar in Year 11 was one of these students. He achieved a Merit Award in the Olympiad Maclaurin Paper – a very well done to him!
