Roman Day 2019 was a colourful affair. The children arrived at school sporting colourful costumes and amazing Roman shields! There was an air of true fighting spirit which was wholly appropriate. Following a brief study of Roman army formations and battle tactics, we all enjoyed the Roman military equivalent of a ‘dance off’. Each class, matched against opponents in the Junior Hall, got to show off their synchronized formations and test their resolve while being bombarded by sponge ball missiles. Phew! There were some tense moments, but all held firm and were a credit to their centurions!
Also during the day, the children enjoyed making clay medallions and learning to play a Roman board game called Tabula. Children were able to add to our coin mosaic, the coins being donated to charity. Of course, it wouldn’t be Roman Day without the traditional Roman Feast – thank you parents! Let battle commence!
